Week 1 (January 10 – 16)

JANUARY 11th, 2016

In the past I have not completed the Fit Test in this program which is basically Shaun T showing you how to do 8 key exercises that are repeated frequently in the program.  Once he gives you demo you have 1 minute to complete as many reps as possible.

I haven’t done it because I didn’t think it was necessary and I didn’t want to waste time when I could be doing an actual workout.  Well…it is an actual workout my friends! Here’s what my list looks like.

The abbreviations mean:

  • 1 – Switch Kicks – 120
  • 2 – Power Jacks – 56
  • 3 – Power Knees (Left Side) – 100
  • 4 – Power Jumps – 60
  • 5 – Globe Jumps – 9.5
  • 6 – Suicide Jumps – 23
  • 7 – Push-Up Jacks – 25
  • 8 – Low Plank Oblique – 40

I did pretty good…much better than I would have but I know I can do better so I’m really happy I did it this time. Plus I was drenched upon completion, even if it was only about a 25 minute workout.

Things to keep in mind when you watch the video

  • Jack was filming…he does his best!
  • Katie is whining in the background because I had to use my phone for the video (I let her play on it while I’m working out to keep her occupied…) Otherwise it would be near impossible to complete the workout.
  • In the last clip, where I’m doing the switch kicks, I totally should be standing straighter and getting my legs up more…Benefits of seeing yourself on video…Form Correction!

Day 2 – INSANITY – Plyometric Cardio Circuit

Ok, it’s Day 2 and I hammered this one out at 6am. It’s about 40 minutes long.

The first interval (3 sets in the interval) after the warm-up is fast paced and after the 3rd set, Shaun T adds in another 2 minutes before you can take the 30 second break (I had forgotten about that).

The second set is focused on the core. Lots of push-ups and planks. I can do many more push-ups now compared to 5 months ago, but it’s STILL HARD. I was drenched at the end.  That’s what I love about INSANITY, it doesn’t get easier, I just get stronger.

Here’s the video of me doing the first set in the first interval. A few things to keep in mind:

  • Jack wasn’t able to film me this morning so I had to rig some type of tripod with my phone, selfie stick and a duck tape…Seems like it worked ok!
  • There isn’t a stretch in INSANITY Max 30 and I missed that.
  • Need to start getting up a few minutes earlier to account for the extra time the warm-up requires.

Day 3 – INSANITY – Cardio Power and Resistance

This one is hard for me. The warm up features a lot of squatting and jumping. I’m tired even just after the warm-up! But, the good thing is that tomorrow is Cardio Recovery Day! Yay! HOWEVER, even though this is the toughest workout for me…it’s the one that I feel really changes my body every time I do it.

So, after the warm-up, there are 2 sets of intervals (with 3 set in the intervals).

Interval 1 – Power Jumps to start…just focus on getting through the sets. You always get your 30 second break. I live for those and I focus on those all the time! Also, tricep workout too. Try to watch your form. It’s better to go slow, than really fast with shitty form.

Interval 2 – Lots of Pushups, you are going to feel this in your arms tomorrow!

About the video:

  • My house is dark…sorry about that. It’s hard to get light in the living room when it’s still dark outside! That’s another reason I can’t wait for summer.
  • Jack is filming..to the best of his abilities! lol
  • This workout is really hard. Period. Just get thought it and don’t press pause.

Day 4 – INSANITY – Cardio Recovery

Here’s my video for today…I don’t know WTF happened…but Jack was filming. Also, I don’t exactly like this type of exercising…It feels slow…but I can’t just go on what I feel…because it’s actually good for me! I actually love tomorrow’s DVD “Pure Cardio”…

I’m feeling discouraged right…not sure way. Probably tired. Tomorrow will be a better day.

Day 5 – INSANITY – Pure Cardi0

Ok, after the warm-up get ready for a solid 15 mins straight. Instead of intervals, it’s cardio endurance so Shaun T does 15 exercises for 1 minute each.

There aren’t any mini 30 second water breaks really so if you need water stop and drink some. He’ll say that throughout. The first 8 minutes are the toughest and then he starts picking exercises that are a bit easier to get through. It’s a real calorie buster.

In the video, I have to laugh at how Kate just doesn’t care that I’m jumping around like a lunatic! lol She’s used to it….lol

The exercise I’m doing is NOW one of my favourites. When I first started I couldn’t get through that one, but now I kill it!

Day 6 – INSANITY – Plyo Circuit

I feel great today.  Started off with INSANITY but felt so energized that I did 21 Day Fix Extreme, Dirty 30. I love Saturdays because I can take my time and I’m not rushed.

1 – You’ll notice I bought a new sports bra…NOTE TO SELF taking your children shopping for sports bras is not ideal.

2 – I had to get a neon orange one because every other medium sized ones were sold out… But, I don’t wear much colour normally so guess it gets me out of my comfort zone!

3 – I took the tree down this morning.

I feel super energized today, but lately that’s how I’ve been feeling a lot lately. I’m thinking it’s the shakes I’ve been drinking everyday. And better nutrition.

Happy Saturday!
